8th Hole Drainage

Going, going...
Gone!!
The mystery pile of soil that ran down the side of the 8th fairway (which was the filling for the new drainage) has finally been removed, it will keep dropping throughout the season and will be topped up. We will seed down the edges and turf or seed it later in the year.

We have completed turfing the 17th tee, the new practice bunker has been filled with sand and we are starting to cut the tees, just with a topping off cut.

With the weather being ideal for laying turf it's a good chance to get on with the 17th medal tee, the mounting on the back of the small tractor helps to speed up the process

Grass Cutting

The increase in temperature has kick-started the growth on the greens, here we see our greens apprentice, Jake, having his first chance on the greens mower... but only on the practice green!

New 6th tee

Work has now started on preparing the new 6th tee, here you can see Julian preparing the land and levelling off, ready for turf to go down. When this tee comes into play it will make the 6th hole around 300 yards long

The old practice bunker, next to the practice green has now been filled in, shaped and turfed over.

New 17th Hole Medal Tee


 Work is continuing on building the new medal tee for the 17th hole, with plenty of drainage going in, the final picture shows the tee completed and waiting for the turf to be laid, weather permitting this should be completed soon

Wild Horses!!

Fencing being erected on the 4th hole by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to allow the Exmoor Ponies that are living in the bog to graze off the weeds & nettles, which are choking out the rare natural flora that are growing in that area of the woods. If we're lucky we might get to see the ponies in this area occasionally

New 14th tee

 The new tee on the 14th hole is now complete and ready to be played from when the season starts, work is continuing on the new 17th tee, weather permitting it will be turfed in the next couple of weeks, as you can see the greens staff are hard at work levelling the ground ready for the turf

New trees on the 18th hole

Trees are being planted on the 18th hole as part of our safety procedures to prevent balls being hit onto the A64, there are a number of other initiatives in the pipeline which we will report on as they happen...

A quick thaw is leading to flooding, the ground is solid underneath so there's nowhere for the water to go, this is the 14th green today

9th Hole changes

The first conifer has been taken out to allow some daylight to get to the green to try & help it dry out. The rest of the conifers are being trimmed down as can be seen in the photo for daylight to get to the green as well
